Greece Achieves High Green Energy Production Record in 2023
Greece has stated that it achieved record-high rates of production in hydroelectric, solar and wind energy during 2023, IPTO the country’s power grid operator announced according to Reuters.
This comes as Greece seeks to be a green energy exporter to northern countries.
The power produced through renewables and hydroelectric sources reached 57% of Greece’s energy mix during 2023, recording a 8.5% annual increase from the year before. The remaining energy was produces from oil, gas and coal.
As part of a €5 billion 10-year project, IPTO intends to expand the grid’s capacity to reach 29 gigawatt by 2030 from 18 gigawatt at the beginning of 2024, IPTO CEO Manos Manousakis stated.
