Egypt-Greece Interconnector Under Consideration to Join EU PMI Projects

The electrical interconnector between Egypt and Greece, which is known as “GREGY,” has been proposed for consideration in order to be among the European Union’s (EU) list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI), Energy Live News reported.

This comes as the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy announced this potential inclusion, which marks a milestone in the project’s approval process.

The electrical interconnection is an initiative to connect Egypt to Europe through Greece via a 3,000MW submarine cable spanning approximately 950 kilometers.

Accordingly, the interconnector is set to facilitate the transfer of green energy from Egypt to Greece, which is generated by 9.5GW of renewable energy sources operated by Copelouzos Group in Egypt.
