Algeria Intends to Supply 10% of Europe’s hydrogen

The Germany’s economics and climate ministry said that Algeria intends to extend an already existing gas pipeline corridor via Tunisia and Italy to southern Germany to supply 10% of Europe needs of green hydrogen produced from renewable power.
He said that at the opening of a German-Algerian energy partnership meeting in Algiers attended by Algerian energy minister Mohamed Arkab and German state secretary for economics and climate protection Stefan Wenzel.
The ministry added that Algeria also offered two large solar power tenders. Germany’s RND newswire stated that giant solar farms in the Algerian Sahara Desert will produce the needed hydrogen for export to Europe.
Moreover, Italy’s previous Prime Minister Mario Draghi has negotiated to enter into a cooperation agreement with Algeria to a double has deliveries to Italy to more than 20 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2022, and it is planned to increase to 36 bcm in the coming years.
